A Pioneer team member since 2013, Matt made us proud when he took home the 1st Place trophy from the 2018 Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers/International Masonry Institute (BAC/IMI) Apprenticeship Competition. He competed in the PCC skills category – Pointer Caulker Cleaner. Sponsored by Local Union #1, Matt traveled to Las Vegas to win the regional contest and then to the national training facility in Bowie, Maryland to win the nationals. “In a timed contest, I was given a block and brick wall that I had to repoint with three different joint applications, also patch a piece of stone, and then do a brick infill with flashing and waterproofing over a window iron. Overall, a great experience and it has motivated me to keep refining my craft,” commented Botts.
